The Mi-Ki (pronounced Mee-Kee) is intelligent, calm, sweet-natured and affectionate. They are energetic dogs, but their activity level is generally low to moderate. They are extremely social and catlike in their mannerisms as they pounce on, chase and swat at their toys or playmates.
The Mi-Ki is non-shedding and many people with allergies have been able to live with a Mi-Ki. A small yard or short walks and a sunny window to perch in is all the Mi-Ki needs to be healthy and happy. They make great apartment dogs, but also enjoy the outdoors. Generally the Mi-Ki barks very little. Some make a sound similar to a yodel or a type of joyful twittering. They are good with children, the elderly and other pets and are often used as therapy dogs. They are easy to train and readily adapt to your life style with many trained to the litter box.
Breed History
The Mi-Ki is a relatively new breed that was started in the 1980s by a Maureen Westberg in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. How the Mi-Ki originated is not completely documented. Even though its history has been discussed, analyzed and scrutinized, many opinions, myths and theories still exist as to how this extraordinary breed was developed.
Mi-Ki’s come in all colors, with two coat types, smooth and rough. The smooth coat requires less grooming. They carry two ear settings, dropped and erect. Average weight is between 4-8 pounds.
